The likelihood of serious injury and property damage can occur anytime welding and hot work operations are performed.  The term welding or hot work is defined as any operation that produces sparks, heat, or use of any open flame.  Through implementation of the welding and hot work permit program, the likelihood of serious injury and property damage will substantially be reduced.

Determination of needs

To assure an effective welding and hot work permit program, the following have been established:

  • Development of standard operation procedures for welding and hot work operations
  • Use of welding/hot work permits
  • Use of personal protective equipment
  • Training for authorized employees
